The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at UBC is one of the largest and most diverse departments of its kind in the world. Our research and teaching interests span virtually all aspects of understanding the history and dynamics of our planet, as well as management of its resources and the environment we live in.

B.Sc. EOS Major

This degree program is extremely flexible. The only required EOSC courses are the wet and solid earth foundation courses. This gives you the freedom to focus on interests inside or outside of EOAS.

B.Sc. Geology Major

This degree is recommended for students planning to become a professional geologist. If you have maintained 68% GPA and have not failed a course you are encouraged to enrol in the honors program.

B.Sc. Honours

Honours degrees are recommended for students planning to become practicing, professional Geologists or Geophysicists, or who wish to go on to graduate study. Honours degrees can be pursued in four disciplines, or jointly across disciplines, in the Earth sciences.

B.A.Sc. in Geological Engineering

A student completing the B.A.Sc. program receives an "Engineering" degree and qualifies for registration in BC as a "Professional Engineer in Training" (EIT) and normally become eligible for full P.Eng. registration after 4 years of practical experience.

B.Sc. Majors in Atmospheric Science

Sponsored jointly by the Departments of Geography and Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, this program offers undergraduate B.Sc. Major, B.Sc. Honours, B.Sc. Major (Co-op) degrees.There is also a diploma program in meteorology.

B.Sc. Majors in Geophysics

This major's program is available for students who have a broad interest in the Earth Sciences as it relates to geophysics. Those who wish to pursue a professional career in the discipline are encouraged to enrol in Major or Honours Geophysics program.

B.Sc. Programs in Environmental Science

The Bachelor of Science program in Environmental Sciences is designed to give students a broad perspective on the environment. The program concentrates on understanding the major environmental issues facing human societies and it adopts an integrative cross-disciplinary approach to the study of these issues. This program offers undergraduate B.Sc. Major and B.Sc. Honours.
